Custom Quartzite Countertops
Quartzite Countertops — Trending Styles
Quartzite is a natural stone formed when quartz-rich sandstone is subjected to the intense heat and pressure typically occurring between intersecting tectonic plates within the Earth’s crust. Those conditions recrystallize the sand grains and silica, creating a matrix of interlocking quartz crystals that’s incredibly strong. Consequently, it’s not surprising that quartzite can and usually does rival the hardness of granite, yet its visual characteristics provide a more marblesque, quiet, timeless and sophisticated design result. That characteristic makes it a wonderful choice for high-use countertops. Plus, quartzite is naturally resistant to most chemicals and a variety of environmental conditions.
Pure quartzite is usually white to grey in color, but also occurs in shades of soft green, cream, blue, red and pink according to its content of other minerals such as iron oxide, zircon, rutile, and magnetite. Those mineral inclusions can impart a variety of unique rhythmic patterns and character that complement an array of design goals. Equally important, quartzite tones/hues and veining read more nuanced than “primary” and create a powerful yet subtle impression.
